Horizon League Announces Dates and Bracket for 2019 Motor City Madness

INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League announced today that the dates and championship brackets for the 2019 Little Caesars Horizon League Basketball Championships have been finalized. Motor City Madness will begin March 5-6 and will culminate with the semifinal and championship games on March 11-12 at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena.

The 2019 men’s and women’s championship games will take place on Tuesday, March 12 with the men playing at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN or ESPN2 and the women starting at noon ET on ESPNU.

Detroit Mercy To Host 3rd Annual City College Series To Benefit DPS K-5

DETROIT -- The 3rd Annual City College Series to Benefit Detroit Public Schools K-5 is back and this year will be even bigger as both the University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's basketball team will host Wayne State in an exhibition charity game on Nov. 3. at Calihan Hall. 

"This has been a great game for the city not only highlighting two premier basketball and academic schools, but everyone in the city coming together to help Detroit Public Schools," said Director of Athletics Robert C. Vowels, Jr. "Michigan First Credit Union has been an outstanding partner for us in this initiative and now to have the women also playing will make it even a better day for the city of Detroit."

The doubleheader will start with the women battling the Warriors at 5:00 p.m., and that will be followed by the men's game at 7:30. 

Tickets to the games are set at $2 per person and will be on sale starting in September at Calihan Hall. 

All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Detroit Public Schools K-5 with Michigan First Credit Union contributing a matching donation for all tickets sold.

Detroit Mercy Men¹s Basketball Horizon League Schedule Announced

INDIANAPOLIS -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will begin the Horizon League season on the road and end it at home with a five-game homestand and road swing in the middle as the conference schedule was formally announced on Wednesday. 

Detroit Mercy will start the conference campaign with a trip to Ohio to battle Youngstown State and Cleveland State on Dec. 28 and 30, respectively.

After that, the Titans will have a five-game homestand with defending champion Wright State (Jan. 3), NKU (Jan. 5), Green Bay (Jan. 10), Milwaukee (Jan. 12) and Metro Series-rival Oakland (Jan. 19) at historic Calihan Hall.

James Hill Claims Top 10 Spot, Detroit Mercy Fifth In Season Opener

 VERONA, N.Y.  -- Freshman James Hill (Lakeshore, Ont./Assumption Catholic) didn't show any signs being a rookie in his collegiate debut as the Titan solidified a top-10 finish with a 3-under 69 in the final round of the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate on Monday.

As a team, Detroit Mercy made a run into the top three before placing fifth overall with an 886 (295-298-293), just behind Boston College' (885) and Bethune-Cookman (884). Host Missouri won the event with an 848, while North Dakota State was second totaling an 877 at the Par 72, 6,882-yard course.

Titan Women Celebrate last second 1-0 victory!

Former University of Detroit Mercy forward and current professional player in China Eli Holman will host a Back To School Book Bag Giveaway as part of the Eli Holman Foundation this weekend in Detroit

WHAT:   Back To School Book Bag Giveaway will also feature free hair cuts, free food, face painting, bounce house and music

WHEN:   Saturday, Sept. 1, 9am – 3pm 

WHERE:  Faith Clinic Church Of God In Christ (12260 Camden, Detroit, Mich.)


NOTE:  Holman played three seasons for the Titans from 2009-12 and ended his career by earning the Horizon League Sixth Player of the Year in 2013. He finished his career with 1,024 points, 34th in Titan history, and averaged 11.5 points and 8.6 rebounds in his three years, shooting 61.0% from the field. His 163 blocks in the Motor City stand second in school history. He was part of the Titan team that won the Horizon League Championship in 2012 and played Kansas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Thanks to his generous donations, the Eli Holman Study Hall was completed in Calihan Hall in 2016.

UDM's Carly Fiorido Is The Horizon League's Offensive Player Of The Week!

INDIANAPOLIS -- Senior Carly Fiordo (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) normally is the one stopping the opposing team from scoring, but on Sunday, she took her game to another level netting the game-winner and for that, she was tabbed the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week today.

Fiorido helped bring together a young back line to keep Eastern Michigan off the scoreboard in the second half in a near Titan comeback on Friday. Against Central Michigan on Sunday, she helped shut down the Chippewas' all-time leading scorer and then kicked in the game-winning goal with less than 20 seconds left in a 1-0 victory.

Fiorido's Late Stunner Clinches Victory In Titans' Home Opener

DETROIT  -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team and senior captain Carly Fiord (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) created a dramatic atmosphere in their 2018 home opener at Titan Field, with Fiorido scoring the game's only goal with 21 seconds left in a 1-0 win over visiting Central Michigan.

Mike Davis Announces First Wave Of Titan Signees

DETROIT (8/20/2018) -- University of Detroit Mercy head men's basketball coach Mike Davis has been busy all summer looking for talented student-athletes and today, he has announced his first recruiting coup.

The first batch of recruits consists of four freshmen and a junior college transfer, fifth year senior and a Division I transfer. 

"This is the start of a good class, a hard working class," said head coach Mike Davis. "I feel that we have done a great job assembling student-athletes who were under recruited and have something to prove. "We will have more signees coming, but I think we have guys who want to work hard." 

Harrison Curry – Jr. – F – 6-7 – 230-LB – Ann Arbor, Mich./Legacy (SC) (Louisiana Tech)

  • Will have to sit out this season and will have two years of eligibility left
  • A transfer from Louisiana Tech, where he saw action in one game last season before missing the rest of the year with a knee injury
  • Before that, played at Pensacola State College for two years and was ranked the No. 45 best junior college player in the country in 2017
  • Averaged double figures in both years, including a team-high 14.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore
  • Tabbed First Team All-Conference as he shot 46.0-percent from the field and 37.0-percent from three-point range
  • He scored in double figures 20 times while also having six games of posting 20+ points and three double-doubles with a career-high 29 against Northwest Florida State, where he drained five 3-pointers 
  • As a freshman, averaged 11.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. 
  • Originally from Ann Arbor, he played his senior year of high school at Legacy Charter School in South Carolina and averaged a double-double with 15.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, and was named the Offensive MVP and Male Athlete of the Year
  • His dad played basketball at Western Michigan

Dan Hasty To Serve As The Voice Of The Titans On 910 AM

DETROIT  -- Veteran broadcaster and Detroit Metro native Dan Hasty (@ThatDanHasty) will serve as the new play-by-play voice of the Detroit Mercy men's basketball team this season on 910 AM Superstation.

"We had significant interest from a number of qualified candidates, but Dan's experienced background and his passion for the University and the city were ideal to take over as the Voice of the Titans," said Director of Athletics Robert C. Vowels, Jr. "He will do an outstanding job delivering Detroit Mercy basketball to all of our fans and will carry on a great tradition of radio voices that we have in our program's history."
