(August 8, 2018 - Howell, Mich.) -- Karen Graves has been associated with Concordia University in Ann Arbor for most, if not all, of her adult life. To this day, she considers the campus her home. Only something really special could take someone from their home. To Graves, that special something is happening at Cleary University, where she has agreed to become the new Associate Athletic Director.
"I fell in love with Cleary," Graves said. "Everyone was so welcoming when I visited and to know that I am still starting on the ground level with something that is going to grow tremendously is really exciting."
Graves primary responsibility's will be Compliance and Facility Management of both the Wellness Center and the new Lake Trust Field. A major component will be managing the scheduling of the two facilities as Cleary continues to grow in terms of number of athletic teams and their athletes, but as well as the campus as a whole and the surrounding community.
Graves was a four-year member of the Concordia volleyball team and is a member of that school's Athletic Hall of Fame. For the past six years she has served as an Adjunct Professor as well as volleyball coach and for the last five years as the Associate AD for the university. In the last two years she added the role of Title IX Coordinator to Athletics.
Her first contact with Cleary was as an Adjunct Professor this past spring as she taught Contracts and Negotiations and Sports Management.
"I love small schools," she said. "I love getting to know the athletes and getting to know them as students and people."
As Cleary continues its growth, the need for additional personnel in the Athletics Department was much-needed.
"Karen's depth of experience across the NAIA and the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference as a player, coach and administrator provides her with very valuable perspective," said Director of Athletics Ward Mullens. "That perspective will help Cleary University Athletics continue to thrive and grow in the right direction. I am very excited that she is here!"
